He was a born filmmaker. He could not write-- every time he wrote was a tremendous problem. He could not do music because he was deaf. And he could not draw or paint. So his art was cinema.
Now what happens if this man had been born in 1812, when there was no cinema. He would have been maybe a butcher or maybe a bookseller. Because writing he could not do, painting he could not do...
So maybe there are people being born today in an art form that's going to be invented three or four hundred years from now, who are completely frustrated, who'll never be able to do their art because that art form, like cinema, has not been invented yet. Cinema was not invented in 1930, it came much later.
